A Moment with our Creator: Genesis 9:12-15

God said, “This is the sign of the promise I am giving to you and every living being that is with you for generations to come. I will put my rainbow in the clouds to be a sign of my promise to the earth. Whenever I form clouds over the earth, a rainbow will appear in the clouds. Then I will remember my promise to you and every living animal. Never again will water become a flood to destroy all life.”

Genesis 9:12-15, God’s Word

Over the 4th of July, we traveled to my childhood home to spend the holiday with my parents.  An evening storm brought us an unexpected delight. A full double rainbow arched over the fields.  Whenever I see a rainbow in the sky I am reminded of God’s promise to Noah and to us.  Everything God created is for His purpose and is to His glory.

Poet and pastor Peter Caligiuri has graciously given me permission to share his poem, “Eyes Were Made to See.”  It adds another layer of richness to today’s scripture photos. Enjoy!

Eyes were made to see

Eyes were made to see
Since the moment of creation
Watching dust specks in the sun
Spinning wildly with elation.

Each sunrise with its colors
The wave tops as they break
And the smiles on lips of mothers
And the raindrops on the lake.

He gave them light and focus
And the word to show them how
Our great unseen Creator
Is walking with us now.

  1. I do love those rainbows. I think animals do as well. In deciding to move a few hours away from family to another state, one of the deciding factors to take the job offer (last straw type of thing) was a rainbow over that work place as my wife and I drove by to look at the facility…odd as it had not been raining.

  2. Love how you captured that beautiful rainbow PLUS each of your pups! And Pastor Pete’s poem is a delight, highlighting as it does God’s wonders and goodness all around us. Thank you for sharing it with us, Beth!

  3. Your two girls are so photogenic.❤️ And then I saw the rainbow! Such beautiful pictures, relevant scriptures, and Pastor Pete’s poem was like the icing on the cake. One of my favorite collections of Pete’s is his poems for children: “All Creatures: Mostly Small.” It’s even kid illustrated!

    1. Thank you David. Thanks to the invention of phone cameras, they’ve both been in front of a camera since they were little pups. They’ve also begun to associate my camera with treats. I love how Pastor Pete’s poems for children speak volumes to the adult readers as well.

  4. Great photos of the rainbows and Adi and Summer! You did a good job as I have found that rainbows are really hard to capture as they appear and fade so quickly. Thanks for sharing my poem alongside of these verses and images.

    1. Thank you, Pastor Pete. Rainbows do fade so quickly. That said, these particular ones lasted unusually long allowing for more photo opportunities.. I learned a fun factoid from my Dad that evening. In a double rainbow the outer one has the colors in an inverse order. Thank you again for allowing me to include your poem.

  5. Thank you for sharing this beautiful post Beth. Summer and Adi are as photogenic as always with lovely arching rainbows over them. There are many beautiful reminders of our Creator in His Creation, as Peter’s poem highlights so well, but the best reminder will always be the rainbow – the ultimate picture of His Grace.
I pray that you and your family are well and being blessed in Him today sister 🙏

    1. I’m so glad you enjoyed it Alan and thank you for the lovely blessing. I’m grateful both dogs are camera friendly. I took care of a friend’s dog once and wanted to get a picture to send them only he wasn’t used to cameras and wouldn’t sit still. It was at that moment I realized how camera trained my Labs have become.

      1. I’m sure that in his dream world he was gazing upon a flock of sheep making sure they were safe from any predators. If I were to paint a picture of the Good Shepherd watching His flock, I would have a border collie sitting at his feet watching alongside Him.
