Morning Invitation

“Satisfy us in the morning with Your unfailing love, that we may sing for joy and be glad all our days.”-  Psalm 90:14

I am a night owl.  Years ago, I learned the value of waking before the household not because I want to but because I am a better mama, wife, and overall person after a cup of coffee and quiet time with the Lord.  However, my attitude toward morning was one of endurance.

Enter Adi- my morning pup.  She rises with the birds, has no snooze button, and wakens with an infectious excitement for a new day.  She practically tumbles down the stairs and dances around the kitchen as she anticipates our morning routine- breakfast followed by a nap on her part next to my chair as I enjoy my morning devotions and ending with a long walk.

Each day Adi invites me to embrace the morning with her.  In that challenge, the Lord began revealing in His Word the beautiful treasures that lie within those morning hours- His unfailing love, joy, compassion, strength and direction. Many mornings He paints spectacular sunrises that seem to come with threads of beloved hymns or strands of the Psalms woven into their radiant colors.

“The heavens declare the glory of God; and the skies proclaim the work of His hands” Psalms 19:1.

As we enter a new year, my prayer for each of you is that you will rise a little earlier to enjoy the blessings that come with morning moments spent with Jesus.

The LORD’S loving kindnesses indeed never cease, For His compassions never fail. They are new every morning; Great is Your faithfulness.

Lord, be gracious to us; we long for You.  Be our strength every morning, our salvation in times of distress.

Let the morning bring me word of Your unfailing love, for I have put my trust in you. Show me the way I should go, for to You I lift up my soul.

  1. My favorite time of day as well Beth, to spend time with our Father in the early morning light. It is amazing to step outside as the light is just starting to come through the trees and the moon is overhead. I breath in that fresh cold air and know the day is good. He said, Let there be light.

    1. How beautiful that God’s first spoken words in the Creation story were “Let there be light” and the soft hues and glow of the morning light is how we begin each day. “This is the day the Lord has made let us rejoice and be glad in it.” -Psalm 118:24 I hope you have been enjoying the first mornings of 2021.

  2. Forgive my tardiness in responding Beth, I have been re-reading these last two days His Word with astonished delight at how He blesses us with familiar scriptures. I really love your posts sister, the adventures of Adi alongside your Godly wisdom make a great recipe that encourages my heart. I am blessed to have mornings to myself and Almighty God, in these times I find great gems in His Word and Peace in prayer. He truly is a benevolent God, blessing those who seek Him. God bless you Beth.

    1. No apologies needed Alan. I can’t think of a better way to welcome in a new year than submerging oneself in the Lord’s Word and basking in its blessings. I am so very glad these lessons are of encouragement to you. One of my favorite verses and one I have turned into a prayer is from Isaiah 50:4. Sovereign Lord, give me an instructed tongue to know the word that sustains the weary. Waken me morning by morning, waken my ear to listen as one being taught. I do believe that this is a verse that you live out Alan, as I am so edified and blessed by your devotional treasures.

  3. Okay I got all zen and peaceful feeling when I look at your opening image with the lab on the beach at sunrise and the Psalm. This was a nice post to read while having my tea. I love that Adi invites you each morning to embrace the day – beautiful!

  4. Happy New Year!!! I had to laugh when I read your post because Miles, our current doggie, is the first one we’ve had who is not a morning person. He’s kind of grumpy. He gets up, goes out to the backyard and then finds a quiet place far from the hullaballoo in the kitchen.

  6. Nice post and verses. I have been a morning person as ling as I can remember but not always enthusiastic like your Lab. Here is a morning verse I was blessed with recently.
Let me hear in the morning of your steadfast love, for in you I trust. Make me know the way I should go, for to you I lift up my soul. Psalm 143:8 ESV

    1. Thank you Pastor Pete for sharing this verse! It is a perfect addition to this lesson, and I’ve gone back to include it so that other readers may be edified by it as well. May the Lord continue to bless your writing in the new year.

    1. Thank you David! I was so excited this morning to pick up and read Day 1 of Psalms 365. I’m so grateful to be starting a new year with these words fresh in my mind- “Blessed is the one who does not walk in step with the wicked or stand in the way that sinners take or sit in the company of mockers, but whose delight is in the law of the Lord, and who meditates on his law day and night.” Happy New Year!

  8. Thank you, Beth. Great thoughts + great scriptures + pics of Adi in God’s creation = priceless encouragement!

For 30+ years I’ve started each day with God. The first hour of the morning it’s just me and Him. It’s a rewarding experience I highly recommend!

God’s best to you in 2021, Beth!
